America’s interventionist war, not surprisingly, has taken a turn for the worse. President Trump ordered a much larger number of air and missile attacks on Iran, and those have been underway for several days and are occurring in tandem with a greater number of Iranian attacks on American military bases and assets, as well as on Israel. At day’s end on Sunday (13 July 2026), unnamed American officials reported that the U.S. military in the war region now has more missile launchers of various kinds than it has missiles to load into them. More U.S. military logistical genius seems to be on display here. Maybe, America’s disastrously amateurish” Indeed, the rout from Afghanistan perhaps was not a one-off occurrence, but rather the new normal.
The media also reported that China has dispatched elements of its navy toward the war zone, and that Russia has moved a command-and-control aircraft to an unnamed point in the vicinity of the war zone. There are also reports that the United States is still arming the Ukrainian government, suggesting that U.S. political leaders in both parties just cannot get enough war, enough mad and controlling allies, or enough lost wars. It also suggests that American leaders do not know that Ukrainians are rioting in the streets in opposition to Zelensky’s plans to conscript every last man to do his duty and die uselessly at the hands of the Russian Army.
On the brighter side, Iran and Hezbollah are continuing to blaze away at an already badly wounded and dispirited Israel. It seems a marked oddity that it may turn out to be true that the only way the United States can free itself from being owned and ordered about by Israel is that country’s defeat by the forces that America has yet to be able to cope with and then destroy.
Facing what clearly ought to be considered a monstrous failure of U.S. strategy, military capabilities, diplomacy, logistics, flag officers (maybe we don’t have enough 4-stars?), public support for war, intelligence collection, and the formerly vaunted but now missing-in-action U.S. arms industry. Despite these faults and failures, President Trump, Secretary of War Hegseth, and the Israeli-owned and controlled Congress and media appear eager to fight on until victory is secured. Indeed, there are rumors in the media for example, that there appear to be plans in place to land U.S. Marines and Airborne Forces in Iran in the next seven or eight days.
If this occurs and the operation’s course runs true to the form we have seen since February 2026, that force’s commander may be an experienced senior officer named General Thursday, a name that was made famous in Hollywood’s historical account of U.S. Cavalry Colonel Owen Thursday (Played by Henry Fonda). Thursday was a deeply arrogant man who, on taking command, listened to none of his officers or men about the nature and dangers of fighting the talented, cunning, and murderous Apache Indians. As a result, he led most of his command mindlessly into a slaughter in a box canyon held by the Apaches, where not even John Wayne, his next-in-command, nor his top non-coms, Ward Bond and Victor McLaglen, could save them. (See John Ford’s Fort Apache, 1948.) Let us hope we are not on the eve of a remake of Fort Apache. Sadly, though, history always repeats itself.
